Dan Lyons joined Rockport Mortgage in 1996 and is now the President of the firm, bringing over 30 years of combined HUD and mortgage lending experience to Rockport’s clients.
​
Dan participates in all phases of loan origination, underwriting, deal structuring, processing and closing, with core expertise in market-rate and affordable rental housing. He also specializes in the restructuring/recapitalization of HUD assisted projects as well as in the financing of market rate rental housing. Through his career, Dan has closed over 700 transactions encompassing over $10 billion in project financing for Rockport.

A recognized national expert on affordable housing policy, Dan has participated on numerous panels sponsored by HUD and leading industry organizations, including the Mortgage Bankers Association, addressing the complex issues challenging this sector, as well as the multifamily housing and assisted living markets.

Starting his career at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Dan’s responsibilities as a Multifamily Housing Representative included advising and coordinating all activities required of clients participating within Federal housing programs for new and rehabilitated properties, as well as assurance of compliance with the often-complex HUD regulations.
​
Dan manages a highly skilled and specialized team of professionals at Rockport, many of whom serve active roles in prominent industry groups, including the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), National Leased Housing Association (NLHA), and Institute for Responsible Housing Preservation (IRHP). Dan and his team are also actively involved with many HUD-focused regional groups including the Eastern Lender’s Association (ELA), Southeast Mortgagee Advisory Council (SMAC) and Southwest Mortgagee Advisory Council (SWAC).

Dan holds a B.A. in Political Science from Assumption College, Worcester, M.A. and an M.A. in Community and Economic Development from New Hampshire College, Manchester, NH.
